Putting Plastic in it's 'Plaice'
With a lot of the larger companies getting on board with reducing their plastic waste; like McDonalds banning plastic straws and Morrisons ditching plastic bags in favour for paper ones for their loose produce, the spot light is on the big providers to up their game when it comes to their environmental impact.
As Gedling Climate Change Group is a small and local group, we thought we’d set our sights on our small and local businesses and try to encourage them to follow suit with reducing their plastic usage.
So, where do we start I hear you cry! Well, we start with a treat that everyone has local to them, the chippy!
Unfortunately, gone are the days where you can pop to the chip shop on a Friday evening and come away with your steaming hot chips wrapped in yesterdays newspaper, instead you get your tea served on a polystyrene tray, wrapped up in a plastic bag with a plastic fork thrown in for good measure. A great tea but an absolute nightmare for the environment!
With this in mind, our very own Chairman Phil has started a campaign for our local Fish and Chip shops.
We’re approaching our local shops and asking them to consider replacing their plastic and polystyrene products with environmentally friendly alternatives. Armed with samples from local suppliers and a letter explaining our aim, we’re getting out and about to try and get Gedling to go green when it comes to the nations favourite foodie fix!
Do you know anyone who owns a chip shop, or if your own local is trying to up their environmental game? If so, please get in touch and we can provide you with a sample pack too!
