Far From Slim Pickings!

Back in May, Gedling Climate Change Group had their first outing since the reforming of the group to hit the streets of Arnold, armed with bin bags, litter pickers and a spring in our step due to the glorious sunshine! Unfortunately, we had to share the big day with Megan and Harry, so some of the limelight was taken away from us...! But none the less, it was a fabulous morning!

A small group met at Thackerys Lane Park where we were also joined by Kids Against Plastic (and their adorable new pooch!) to sniff out plastics as well as general rubbish in the area.

It’s no surprise that we weren’t falling over each other to grab a discarded bottle or plastic package, there was more than plenty to go around! Walking from the park, up towards McDonalds on Sir john Robinson Way and back (a loop of only around 1mile) we managed to collect three large bin bags of non-recyclable rubbish but also two large bin bags of recyclable rubbish!

We cleared a huge amount of McDonalds rubbish from the small green patch on the other side of the road from the McDonalds restaurant, which was very saddening to say that there are plenty of bins around. As you can see in the photo, there's a few bits that may have biodegraded, but all that waxed paper and pesky straws would have stayed hidden in the plants for years and years to come...

Hopefully, this was the first of many littler picks so look out for the yellow tabards and why not get involved with us next time if you fancy it..?!
